So, it all starts in an ancient Jomon (Japanese) village. There's these two guys (best buddies) taking bread back to one's little house thing, when suddenly they get ambushed by like a KAGILLION little kids that are all like "FOOOD!!! WE WANT FOOOOD!" We learn that most of them are siblings to one or the other of the two guys. After subduing them with the breadness, the kiddies be demanding that they get with the telling them of the stories. Here IS that very story... which they told... on that very day: (cues flashback mode)
So, there's the Earth right? The Earth, it's REAL board. It's got plants, and animals, and all that junk... but it's just no FUN! I mean, all the animals do is eat, sleep, have sex, eat sleep, have sex. All the plants do is... well, whatever it is plants do do that they do so well...
Anyways, Earth decides to make people, one male, one female, out of a couple of Bamboo stalks. They get shot into their new forms, look around, see each other, and FREAK OUT! I mean, they're like "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING MAN!?!?!" Banbuutsu Ryuuten (the male), who is the more passive one, freaks out and runs away, while Itsuuru Ryuuten (The female) freaks out, picks up a giant log and tries to beat poor little Ban silly.
Luckily for our plot, Earth intervines, says "Yo, man, chill!" and explains that being the first two human beings they have to populate the Earth. Thoroughly grossed out by this, seeing as they're brother and sister, they refuse. Earth gets pissed as hell, complaining that it was hard enough going against her own laws by creating the two, and the least they could do is make some stupid babies (sounds like a mother-in-law, huh?). So they fearfully meander offstage and do the icky nasty for the good of the world.
They have 2 children for each direction (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW)... yup, that's 16 chillun's. Let's just say Itsu is now thoroughly pissed off having learned that SHE had to pop out all them things. Strange thing though, the last pair was twins.
Not knowing what to do with this last one. They got a high attachment factor to him, seeing as he was a bit different than all the rest, even his less "spirited" twin. They named him Hakkai Ryuuten (when the Earth had told them not to name any of the children anything but the stupid continent names she gives them). Yet, they knew they were probably going to die soon (sooner than him anyways), and didn't want to leave him alone, so they decided to send him off with the pair going to the NW (even though he didn't want to) after all.
(end flash back mode, cue grossed out children) Bwahahaha. So the two dudes leave to chill out (behind the ladies bathing area), then we find out they're the reincarnations of Ban and Itsu, and they remember it all, and can't figure out why. They're also getting bored of their lives and of hanging around no one but each other, and decide that if they can help it they should try and go their seperate ways after this life. Without having much time to discuss it (they're right about to fight about it because Ban doesn't like the idea), their village is attacked and everyone is slaughtered, including them.
